Friday Top 10 Tech March 4, 2016

Stay up-to-date on the top tech news and trends each week with our Friday Top 10 Tech. See something we missed? Tag @swebdevelopment on Facebook and Twitter! Here’s our top 10 for this week:

1. LinkedIn Debuts New Targeting Feature for Marketers

After shutting down its ad network, LinkedIn has introduced a new service, LinkedIn Account Targeting, which enables marketers to run targeted campaigns to up to 30,00o companies at once. Users were previously limited to sharing with only 100 companies–through a manual process–and LinkedIn plans to expand its offerings associated with the targeting service.

2. Microsoft’s Experimental Keyboard Aims To Solve A Major Mobile UX Problem

Microsoft has developed new software that allows users to access copied text, images, documents and other information directly in the mobile keyboard. There are similar apps available for iOS, but Microsoft’s experiment with improving this major mobile UX problem is impressive.

3. Facebook Adjusts Its News Feed To Favor Live Videos Over Recorded Ones

In addition to joining the likes of Periscope and Meerkat with its live video option available directly in the app, Facebook has changed its algorithm to favor live videos over prerecorded one with the hopes of increasing in-the-moment engagement. Facebook Live is great for live streaming news and entertainment events and we expect to see more public figures and celebrities taking advantage of this platform.

4. Fabric: Twitter’s New App For Developers

Twitter’s new app, Fabric, helps developers track the status and progress of their own apps, with real-time updates and push notifications. This could be a great tool for independent developers who want to closely monitor reviews and user data. The app is available for both iOS and Android.

5. Google Search Results Will Now Play Animal Sounds For You

Although its limited to just 19 animals, Google has added the live recorded sounds in search results for users to click and listen to. Not sure why Google felt compelled to create these, but we have to admit it’s fun listening to them.

6. Voice Calls And Video Conferencing Is Coming To Slack

As we mentioned in our post on the Top Productivity Apps for iOS and Android, Slack is one of our office favorites, and now it’s rolling out video conferencing for all users.

7. Facebook Launches Your Business Story Video Tool

With over 3 million businesses now advertising on Facebook, the social platform has launched a new Your Business Story Tool. Businesses can easily add photos and text to create an instant video and share directly on their page. Video has the highest engagement on Facebook, and this is a great tool for businesses who don’t have the ability to create full-production videos themselves.

8. Instagram Won’t Let You Promote Other Social Media Accounts Anymore

If you’ve taken advantage of the clickable link in your Instagram profile and used it to take followers to your other social media sites, then your out of luck. Instagram is cracking down on users who are encouraging their followers to follow them elsewhere. So far, only profile links from sites like Snapchat and Telegram are affected, but it wouldn’t be surprising if other social media accounts soon follow. You can still link to your website, blog, and e-commerce sites.

9. Apple Will Finally Reply To Your Calls For Help On Twitter

Scheduling an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar or calling in for support may no longer be necessary now that Apple has created a Twitter account dedicated entirely to customer support. Along with troubleshooting help, Apple is also sharing tips and tricks about its devices. Did you know you can create checklists in the Notes app?

10. Facebook Messenger Adds Spotify Integration For Sharing Music With Friends

Simliar to sharing GIFs in Facebook’s Messenger app, you can now share favorite songs from Spotify’s entire catalogue as well. Kind of like the digital version of sharing mixed tapes. Or just a fun way to share those annoying songs we can’t get out of our heads.
