Sweb is born

Magaly Chocano, a former advertising executive, founded Sweb Development in July 2008 as a web development firm 2 months before the economy crashed. As you can imagine it was perfect timing for a start-up. In September 2008, just two months after the launch of the App Store, we began iOS mobile app development. Susana Hernandez, Chief Creative Director joins Magaly in this crazy adventure.

SwebApps takes the internet by storm

In August of 2009, SwebApps was launched as the first online iPhone app builder for small businesses. Sweb was featured in Time Magazine, USA Today, ABC news, WSJ, Mashable, and INC among many others. Trending on Twitter and getting calls from 21 different VC’s was our ticket to stardom.

Top 10 mobile companies to watch?! YES!

In June 2010, we were named one of the Top 10 Mobile Companies to watch, by Entrepreneur Magazine. Two days into our Chief Production Officer’s first day, Taylor Ansley managed the entire company on his own as the rest of us went off to Austin to get seen at SXSW.

Exponential Growth

In 2011, Sweb grew exponentially, to include 13 employees in San Antonio. Adding our VP of Marketing rockstar, Luis Sandoval, to grow our digital marketing side of the business!

40 under 40

Hard to believe we are barely in our 30’s anymore… but got in just in the knick of time… Magaly was named one of San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 and rocked it with Doc Martens and a Prince song.

The Awards Year

Recognized by Cosmopolitan Magazine as one of the 10 Top Fearless Latinas next to Michelle Rodriguez and Natalie Morales, Magaly got a first class adventure to NYC to receive this amazing award and magazine spread. That year we also received SWSWi Social Revolution Innovator Award and recognized as the Small Business of the Year by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Hell yeah - great year!

Top 360 Companies in America

Received the NAWBO Entrepreneurial Spirit Award and Developer of the Year Award from Tech Titans. Recognized again as one of San Antonio Business Journal’s Best Places to Work and named as Entrepreneur Magazine’s top 360 companies in America!

Enterprising Woman of The Year

Won 2 Gold Addy awards, 4 Platinum and 2 Gold Hermes Creative awards, the Enterprising Woman of the Year Award, the Promise Award Presented by Ford, and recognized again as one of San Antonio Business Journal’s Best Places to Work.

Sweb’s New Home

Sweb’s work, team and efforts are being recognized nationwide. We are a small and mighty team that has bootstrapped this operation for years and is now coming into its own. We buy our first building and remodel it exactly the way we want it. Welcome to the new era of Sweb. And along the way we were recognized as INC 5000 fastest growing companies in America.

Sweb is again recognized for the second year in a row as INC 5000 fastest growing companies in America. Along with incredible Sweb Team accolades and recognition Tribute To Women Business Leaders Promise Award and recognized in the Women’s Hall of Fame for Technology.

The Fire and Pandemic

On February 28th, 2020 a devastating fire ravished our building but not our spirits. We lost our pride and joy but gained and even stronger bond as a team and to the city of San Antonio. We were homeless for less than 48 hours and overwhelmed by love and support in the most unimaginable ways. COVID shut us down two weeks later but we began “In This Together” to save our fellow small businesses in pain. We raised $190,000 in 8 weeks and distributed 100% of the proceeds to struggling businesses.

Love Takes Action Award

With amazingly challenging times Sweb thrived during the pandemic - the team got stronger, our clients invested in themselves and we made a plan…what kind of hero do we want to show up as today? We were surprised with the New York Life Foundation “Love Takes Action Award” - where we were awarded $50,000 to go directly to our non-profit of choice.
