A hot buzzword in 2012 was SoLoMo, a short hand version for social, local, mobile. The trend established the two-fold idea that businesses needed to become more agile with social, local, mobile listings, and that users were becoming more hyperlocal with their searches and seeking out local businesses. The opportunity for businesses and users went hand in hand.
In 2013, while not much has been in the news regarding SoLoMo, the topic is no less important. Google for example, truly focuses on local search and seeks out answers to your searches based on your general area. It’s useful in that local businesses can benefit from the patronage of the local community and it became a great opportunity for discovery as well. Still, many local businesses have not harnessed the power of getting social with the community, listings themselves locally, and initiating mobile opportunities.
